Pros Conditioner detangled hair very well, lots of slip and moisture
Cons Shampoo dried and tangled hair into a hot mess, didn’t clean scalp very well. Smell from both products was over powering
Price £ 9.49 Shampoo was free great price/ deal
Recommend? Yes but only the conditioner

Ingredients

The Shampoo

Deionized Water , Coconut Oil-Corn Oil Soap , Hydrolyzed Soy Protein , Organic Aloe Vera , Carrgeenen , Vegetable Glycerin , Organic Shea Butter , Bitter Almond Oil , Pimenta Leaf Oil , Allspice Powder , Sweet Almond Oil , Jojoba Butter , Mango Butter , Organic Coconut Milk , Aubreys Preservative (Citrus Seed Extract , Vitamins A , and , E )

The Conditioner

Coconut Fatty Acid Cream Base , Organic Aloe Vera , Wheat Germ Oil , Almond Protein , Extracts of Fennel , Hops , Balm Mint , Mistletoe , Camomile , and Yarrow , Organic Coconut Milk , Jojoba Butter , Organic Shea Butter , Horsetail Extract , Coltsfoot Extract , Aubreys Preservative (Citrus Seed Extract , Vitamins A , and , E) , Vegetable Glycerin , Organic Rosemary Oil , Pimenta Leaf Oil , Allspice Powder , Organic Sage Oil , Carrot Oil

After immense hesitation, looking at other people reviews, and finding out that Organic Surge is no longer stocked in my local store, I decided to give this a go. I was seduced by the packaging, which showed a black woman with her beautiful, natural kinky hair, a huge smile and the words of ‘Buy One, Get One Free!’ (the shampoo came free with the conditioner) and at £9.49 it was a bargain.

As soon as I was ready, I jumped into the shower and opened the shampoo bottle; unfortunately I was greeted with a strong medicated, herbal smell. I almost nearly threw the bottle to the side but I eventually gave in and put a small amount in my hair. After all, it is ‘Organic’ you can’t go wrong, right? My mother always told me that the products that smell the worse, works the best. Wrong! This shampoo made my hair really dry, it had no slip, and so it was extremely difficult to rinse my hair without it getting tangled into a hot mess. The smell was making me feel really sick so I couldn’t really continue using it, further, the bottle was nearly finished, as I couldn’t get my scalp clean.

Afterwards, I was at the point of praying that the conditioner would rescue my hair. Again the smell was the same, maybe even worse, who knows… anything used after that shampoo would seem worse to me… I slathered a lot of the conditioner on my hair with the hope that I could detangle my hair. With luck, it detangled very well and with the final rinse my hair was super soft with defined curls. The conditioner saved my hair and scalp!

Overall I found that the conditioner worked better than the shampoo. The shampoo foams up really quickly but it felt really drying on the hair. It took too long to wash my hair and scalp as it tangled immediately and I almost felt nauseated by the smell. I would recommend using the conditioner as it was very moisturizing and gave a good slip when detangling but based on the smell I wouldn’t use these products again.

Pros Great moisturizer when used as a leave in, smells scrummy and less to no breakage
Cons 225ml bottle doesn’t last long
Price £9,99
Recommend? Yes

Ingredients
Aqua, Simmondsia chinensis (Organic jojoba oil), *Aloe Barbadensis, *+Cetyl alcohol, *Behetrimonium methosulfate (and) *Cetearyl alcohol, Olea europaea (olive) oil, Equisetum arvense (horsetail) extract, Urtica dioica (organic nettle) extract, Althaea officinalis (organic marshmallow) extract, Lavandula angustifolia (organic lavender) extract, Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl glycol, *Citric acid, Fragrance (made from blend of natural plant extracts and essential oils)

I saw this product by accident, surfing on the Internet, reading up on my favourite topic... hair. I found Crown pride’s website and was interested in their products as some of them are ecocert certified. With much thought and anticipation, I decided to buy their Organic Milk as I liked the ingredients used in the product. Jojoba oil as a second ingredient is a major plus point for me.

I first used this product as a wash out after my shampoo, but I found out that my hair was a little on the dry side afterwards. So on a daily basis I put a small amount of product on my hair and it was very moisturized. I did this for a week and at the weekend I washed my hair with a simple shampoo brand and my hair had major slippage! I was impressed; it was like doing the daily ritual of moisturizing my hair had prepped my hair like a pre shampoo treatment. I had super soft and shiny hair with very defined curls and no breakage through combing.

The heavenly smell was so good enough to eat, I love products that have sweet or flowery smells, a very good reason for me to buy this product again next to the moisturizing properties that worked. From now on I will use this as a daily moisturizer/ pre poo treatment. I gave this 4.5 out of 5 because it’s a shame that it doesn’t last very long. I might have to buy a larger size bottle.

Pros Removes dead skin, lightly moisturises, good for eczema, lasts a long time, affordable
Cons
After a while is just stopped working…..
Price
£6.95
Recommend? Maybe,

Ingredients

African Black Soap (Saponifed Wildcrafted Virgin Shea Butter, Coconut Oil & Cocoa Pod)*, Organic Rosewater (Rosa damascena), Frankincense Essential Oil (Boswellia carterii), Patchouli Essential Oil (Pogostemon patchouli).

I was looking for a product that didn’t have SLS to wash my body with. I use to use Sanex in the yellow bottle but eventually my skin became overly dry, itchy, flaky and tight. Especially during the winter months so I found this website called Akamuti. Where they sell only pure products with no man- made chemicals and they try to source all their products ethically and fairtrade. I decided to buy the Famous African Black soap that everyone raves about. For a while this product was heaven, The smell was pleasing, I only need a dime amount for it the disperse on my pouf with water over my skin. I had super soft and clear skin, my scars were fading away and my boyfriend who had dry skin on his face especially around his nose, used some which worked a treat. I teamed this soap with the usage of coconut oil and we had problem free skin for a while.

But out of the blue something happened. My boyfriend continued using this the products with no issues as it kept on working for him, but for me my skin just suddenly changed. The soap was no longer removing the dead skin. I found my self going back into the shower each time I saw dirty flakes coming off on to the towel. After using the coconut oil on my skin, within minutes my skin would look dry and flaky, especially my lower legs. I thought maybe my showers were too hot so I changed to warm ones but I had no success. I checked the ingredients to see it anything had changed since I bought the very first batch. No change. After checking other possibilities and and another month of usage, I just had to admit that it was not working for me anymore.

It’s a real shame really because this was the best soap I ever had used and now I have to use Dove shower cream which fortunately for me has glycerin as the second ingredient and SLS as the 5th.

Soft and Frizz-free Hair
Pros Great shine, lasting softness, smells scrummy
Cons
Small jar for the price
, shine goes away too quickly
Price £3.98
Recommend
? Yes

Ingredients

Purified water, squalane (olive oil derived), caprylic/capric triglyceride (coconut oil derived), peg-75 lanolin, behntrimonium methosulfate, hexadecanol, cetearyl alcohol, ceterareth-20, dimethicone, phenyl trimethicone, Mango seed butter, cocoa seed butter, hydrolyzed silk, serica, methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, fragrance, fd&c yellow no.5.

There are mixed opinions regarding whether this product actually works. In my case it definitely does. Do I have problems with hardness, breakage, dryness or greasiness? No, actually the opposite, my hair has been super soft since. The smell is so scummy that sometimes I wonder what it tastes like (he he) and it lasts a long time. I use this product for my twists, edges and ends so it does last me a long time. I have also experienced less breakage, so it must be helping!

I saw online that for some people the product was very heavy for them and it left residue. I haven’t had any of those problems. My hair has (so far) never felt weighed down or greasy. Probably the product when combined with certain shampoos, conditioners or just pure heavy handiness might cause this problem.

My routine when using this product consists of:

- Washing my hair with Organic Surge Citrus Mint Shampoo, followed by the same brand conditioner mixed with pure coconut oil
- Twisting my hair with the Elasta QP mango Butter, using small amounts, paying more attention to the ends

- I spray my hair when its dry with my water and glycerin mix and add small amounts of mango butter to the ends (I don’t do this often because my hair stays moisturised for quite a while

Because I use it on my wet/damp hair, my hair strands absorbs the oils very well and my hair stays soft in the mornings when I wake up. The shine doesn't last long unfortunately but I combat this with spraying my hair with my glycerin mix daily. I don’t think I will give up on this product just yet.

100% Chemical Free
Pros NO sulfates, parfum, petroleum, parabens or mineral oil, keeps hair soft, and smell nice.
Cons
Contents doesn’t last very long.
Price Shampoo is £4.88 and the conditioner is £4.88
Recommend? Yes

Ingredients

The shampoo
Aqua(Water), Lauryl
Glucoside(Coconut oil and fruit sugars), Coco Betaine(Coconut oil), Decyl Glucoside(Corn starch and coconut oil), Vegetable Triglycerides(Plant and vegetable oils), Coco-Glucoside(Coconut oil and fruit sugars), Glycerin(vegetable soap manufacture), Sucrose Laurate(Sugar and coconut oil), Peg-60 Almond Glycerides(Plant Extract Oil Blend), Phenoxyethanol, Disodium EDTA, Tocopherol(Natural vitamin E), Citric Acid(Citric fruit), Sorbic Acid(Mountain ash berries), Benzoic Acid(Fruit and berries), Lactic Acid(Milk fermentation), Citral, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool.

The Conditioner
Aqua(Water), Glycerin(vegetable soap manufacture), Cetrimonium Chloride(vegetable derived), Cetearyl Alcohol(vegetable derived), Vitis Vinifera(Grapes), Ceteareth-20/Peg-20 Stearate(Vegetable Based), Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride(Plant Mucilage), Citric Acid(Citrus fruits), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis, Citrus Limon, Mentha Piperita(Organic essential oil blend), Dimethicone Copolyol, Yucca Vera(Plant extract), Phenoxyethanol, Tocopherol(Natural vitamin E), Hyroxypropyltrimonium Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein(GMO-free wheat), Citral, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool.

I discovered this product whilst searching for chemical free products. It was the only one I had found during that day. I found it very surprising that everything had sulphates, hydroxide and mineral oil.

‘If it is soo bad why does everything have the same ingredients?’ I wonder…
I even notice two products, one of which was Shea butter and the other was of Aloe Vera. Surprisingly they both had exactly the same ingredients. Where was the Shea butter or Aloe Vera you say…? Well I can only think that the ingredient listed as parfum was the Shea butter and Aloe Vera scent. This would mean that there really isn’t any real natural ingredient, just the smell of it. What annoyed me the most was that these products were advertised as ‘Organic’ ! (That will be another topic soon). But anyway let me continue with the review lol.

I have used these for one month now (I wash my hair on a weekly basis) and so far my hair feels bouncy and fresh. My curl pattern looks even more defined when wet and it’s actually cleans better than the Crème of Nature product I was using before. It makes my hair feel very clean but not slippery. One thing though is that I have to add a leave-in afterwards because if I don't my hair dries frizzy. The smell is very refreshing and there has been no white residue left on my hair as I know with certain shampoos that can be a problem AND it cured my dandruff problem. BRILLIANT!

Disappointing Body Lotion
Pros Smells good, ok-ish moisture hold
Cons Has mineral oil and petrolatum, Skin becomes more drier than normal
Price £2.99
Recommend? No

Ingredients

Water (aqua), Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Glyceryl Stearate, Petrolatum, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Cocos nucifera (Coconut)Oil, Mineral Oil (Paraffinum Liquidum), Stearalkonium Chloride, Cetylalchohol, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Dimethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance (Parfum), Hydroxyethylcellulose, PEG-8 Stearate, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Yellow 5 (CI 19140), Orange 4 (Cl 15510).

I’m disappointed in this product. Is it just me or does this product make dry skin even worse?. I’ve used this product on and off and thought it was great until I noticed that my skin started to get even more dry and flaky. It stopped working on my skin as my skin felt more tight and it left an artificial sheen on my body. Within hours of applying the cream I’ve noticed that my skin was flaking and turning white. Hmmm I don’t understand why so much people rate this product because supposedly it prevents stretch marks (wasn’t the case for me as I have stretch marks on my legs) and keeps your skin soft (can be debatable as lately my skin is very dry from its use) and keeps a youthful appearance (my skin now looks dull, plastic-ey and dry). My skin is not the same as it used to be and I’m now trying to recover from this product.

Does anyone know of another product that is all natural and works?

Please do not mention Nivea as this product is even worse.

A Great Detangler
Pros Detangles hair, leaves hair feeling soft, defines curls
Cons None so far

I’ve been using Crème of nature for 3 years now and have had no real problem with this product. I usually use it on its own and once a month I use a wash out conditioner so that it has extra moisture especially during the colder months. I must say when I first used it I felt like wonder woman. I applied the shampoo to my hair in sections in the shower and after I washed it out all my curls separated and I was shaking my hair like thoses girls on the commercials thinking ‘wow, I feel good….’. My hair was easier to manage since then and shiny before adding other products.

I have heard from other people and certain websites that it didn’t work well in their hair and that they had residue left in their hair etc…. Well I think that it could be due to the products that are mixing with the shampoos because if you think about it you add hair pomades, sprays, oils, and grease to your hair after you shampoo and they all have different ingredients. So its normal that maybe your shampoo doesn’t work well as it did before. It could be that the other products being used are harder to wash out of your hair (e.g stupid mineral oil) in which case you then need to use a hair Clarifier to remove product build up for Crème Of Nature to work again.

I still would recommend this product as it works well for me (Not the new formula because it has sodium lithium sulfate). My hair is frizzy and curly at the same time and its not that thick and this shampoo works well on my hair. I would suggest that you use a clarifier every now and again to remove build up caused by other products.

I bought this last year because I loved the new colour range of Rimmel’s glosses. I was very happy when I first applied it on because it wasn’t sticky at all; a common problem with most lip glosses. (You know when you’re out raving and you get that weird white mark around your lips and its all sticky erghhh!) I never really had any major problems with Rimmel because their products have always been good and the price is very affordable.

However you do tend to apply the lip gloss more often than other brands because it disappears… I don’t know where to but it goes ‘pooff’ like the wind! :c/ The sweet Jelly lasts longer than other cheaper brands, as you don’t need to apply as often as the others. Well what else can I say? It's LIP GLOSS, if you’re on a budget, it's definitely recommended.

Ingredients

Sorry but I threw away the box so I don’t remember all of the ingredients. All I know is that there is Silica and Talc :c/

I used to wear fashion Fair make up but my mum introduced me to M.A.C in 2004 and I was hooked. I must say that when I bought my first foundation in Selfridges I had great service and I was thinking that they could never match my skin as the Fashion Fair foundation didn’t quite match. But the assistant put a sample on my jawbone and I was extremely amazed at how flawless it looked. I bought it immediately because you couldn’t tell the difference between my natural skin and the part where the make up was, and I loved the fact that it was 2 products in one!. I didn’t get any acne flair ups and it didn’t itch. You definitely cannot feel it on and it doesn’t transfer to your clothes that easily either.

In terms of wear-ability it lasted all day I have only had to retouch my face once during the day, or twice when I’m clubbing and you couldn’t see my oily skin, which can be real pain for me (why why or why did god give me oily skin?). It also lasts for quite a while and I did find that I have a bit of it left when I threw it away after 3 months. I would advice anyone to go to your nearest M.A.C store and try out their products. I’m a M.A.C junkie because now I buy most of my beauty products from M.A.C.
